Confused about CBD Oil? What does it all mean? This page should help to clear a few things up.
Is CBD The Same As Cannabis?
Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is a naturally occurring constituent of industrial hemp and marijuana, which are collectively called cannabis. CBD oil is 1 of at least 85 cannabinoid compounds found in cannabis and is popular for its medicinal benefits. It’s a naturally occurring substance, which can be extracted and mixed with a carrier oil – often hemp seed or coconut – to create CBD oil. After tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD oil is the second-most-abundant component of cannabis (Shannon, 2016).
Unlike the most well-known cannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC), CBD is not psychoactive, meaning that it won’t make you ‘high’ – the sensation most commonly associated with cannabis.
Since the 1940s, a number of published articles have dealt with the chemistry, and the clinical effects of CBD.But over the last decade there has been a notable increase in the scientific literature on CBD, owing to the identification for reducing nausea and vomiting, decreasing anxiety and depression, assisting in psychotic disorders, reducing inflammation, improving sleep, and increasing general sense of well-being (Zuardi, 2008) (Zuardi et al, 2006)
Is CBD Legal?
With the rise in popularity of CBD, there has inevitably been a fair amount of confusion surrounding the legality of CBD oil.
While the vast majority of cannabinoids are controlled substances under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.CBD oil is legal across the UK, provided it has been derived from an industrial hemp strain that is EU-approved. These strains contain very little to no THC (the psychoactive cannabinoid).
There are strict restrictions in place with regard to CBD oil’s THC content: for CBD oil to be legal in the UK, it must contain no more than 0.2 per cent THC, and the THC must not be easily separated from it.
